At the Stepanek Law Offices, we recognize how critical a healthy environment is to our global society. It is our policy to act responsibly and manage resources to promote a sustainable environment. We take our role as environmental stewards seriously and realize our actions and decisions leave behind a lasting impact. Therefore, we consider environmental issues in all aspects of our business. To foster our environmental mission, we focus on the following initiatives:
Simplify
We strive to maximize office efficiency and minimize product consumption. We identify opportunities to repair or purchase recycled, refurbished, reconditioned, or environmental products. The firm's stationery and paper products are FSC certified, green seal certified, chlorine and acid free, and we use the highest percentage post-consumer recycled content possible. Our paper supplier is a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Green Power Partner that offsets 100 percent of its paper manufacturing emissions. Our inks are non-toxic and when designing printing projects, we avoid elements that reduce recyclability, such as foil stamping, adhesives, and plastics. When possible, we minimize font sizes, use low ink settings, narrow margins, and select duplex or multiple page per sheet print options.
Energy Conservation
We regularly audit our energy and water consumption and identify ways to lower our energy needs and reduce waste. We use energy-efficient equipment and our computers, fax machines, printers, copiers, and other electronics are Energy Star compliant. We utilize natural light as much as possible and energy-efficient lighting in accordance with the EPA’s guidelines. Some offices, restrooms, and conference rooms are equipped with wall sensors that automatically turn off lights in unoccupied rooms. When not in use, we unplug lights, computers, and other devices. Our website design features a low wattage palette and dark background to save energy. Our technology providers are green powered and we support energy initiatives and research.
Pollution Prevention and Minimizing Waste
We recycle all products whenever possible and use suitable biodegradable materials for products that cannot be recycled. We minimize heat and cooling systems and offset our energy uses with sustainable alternatives. We encourage alternative transportation and aim to reduce carbon emissions by utilizing energy-efficient vehicles, public transportation, and avoiding unnecessary travel by promoting video conferencing and telecommuting. We use natural cleaners, no-VOC office paints, and avoid or find alternatives to toxic or hazardous substances.
